Turkish salmon exports from the Black Sea have experienced a significant increase, with a 289 percent rise in revenue in the early months of this year compared to the same period last year, reaching $70,614 in foreign currency. Ahmet Hamdi Gürdoğan from the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association emphasized the export growth to Far Eastern countries and the competition with hazelnut exports. Challenges such as storage, the need for licensed warehousing, and the marketing of lake-grown salmon as Black Sea salmon, which compromises quality, were highlighted. The article suggests focusing on semi-finished products like fillets to enhance value and recommends infrastructure improvements, R&D, and training in fish processing techniques to bolster Turkey's position in the global salmon market.
