Global production of lamb rose, exports to Germany increased by 19%

The volume of Hungary's live lamb exports decreased by 1%, while its value increased by 22% in January-September 2022 compared to the previous year. Italy, which accounted for 66% of exports, had 1% fewer lambs, while exports to Germany increased by 19%. The volume of live lamb imports fell by 81% in the first nine months of 2022 compared to the previous year. Most of the live sheep came from France. The producer price of light and heavy lamb rose in January-November 2022: the average price of light lamb was HUF 1,487/kilogram (+16%), that of heavy lamb was HUF 1,397/kilogram (+17%). According to the short-term forecast of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) published in November, the global production of sheep meat could be close to 16.5 million tons in 2022, which means an increase of 1 percent compared to the amount produced in 2021.
