Stink bugs have been identified as a new pest for dry bean and soybean growers in Ontario for the 2021 growing season. Field crop entomologist Tracey Baute with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has recommended that growers should scan for stink bugs on a weekly basis from the R2 stage until the early R6 stage of soybeans. Two techniques for detecting stink bugs have been suggested by Baute: the drop-cloth technique for row plantings and the sweep-net technique for narrow row and drilled beans.
