The report estimates that in 2024, approximately 673 million people worldwide are struggling with hunger, with the proportion of the hungry population decreasing to 8.2%, continuing the steady downward trend from 2023 (8.5%) and 2022 (8.7%). However, the global hunger situation is mixed, with overall improvement masking regional difficulties, as hunger continues to worsen in most sub-regions of Africa and the West Asia region. The report indicates that the global number of hungry people in 2024 is between 638 million and 720 million. According to point estimation, there are 673 million hungry people globally, a decrease of 15 million from 2023 and 22 million from 2022. Although this downward trend is commendable, the latest estimated data remains higher than pre-COVID-19 levels, with high food price inflation being the key factor behind the sluggish recovery of food security in recent years.
