[Korean Fishermen's Newspaper Reporter Young-jin Choi] The "Fishermen's Blue Credit Pilot Project," where fishermen engage in carbon reduction activities in the marine and fisheries sectors, will be fully launched this month. Operated by the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency, the Fishermen's Blue Credit Pilot Project aims to expand seaweed forests and generate carbon credits by providing activity funds to fishermen. This year, it is being carried out in collaboration with Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, Gangneung City in Gangwon Province, and Wando County in Jeollanam Province. In Jeju and Gangneung, the project involves fishermen directly improving the substrate for seaweed attachment on coastal rocks (intertidal zone and subtidal zone) to expand the area of seaweed forests and secure the amount of carbon dioxide absorption. Wando is cultivating useful seaweeds.
