In 2022, German household wine purchases decreased by 10%, leading to a 6.5% decrease in in-home wine traffic, as reported by the German Wine Institute and NielsenIQ. This decrease was more pronounced for German wines, with a 14% quantity sold decrease and an 8% sales decrease, compared to a 7% purchase volume decrease and a 5% spending decrease for foreign wines. The average price of German wines also increased by 6.6%, while the average price of foreign wines increased by 2%. White wine continues to be the favorite, with a stable market share of 47%, while the market share of red wine decreased to 40%, and that of rosé wine increased to 13%.
