Mauritius is increasing local honey production to reduce import dependence and boost economic income through apiculture. The government is supporting beekeepers with various grants and benefits, including free training and access to bee zones. The Apiculture Section of the Entomology Division is responsible for promoting beekeeping and offering advice. However, challenges such as pesticide exposure and colony absconding are encountered. Aspiring beekeepers are encouraged to register for training and benefits, and to follow proper beekeeping practices for the sustainable production of honey and welfare of bees.
