Lifting of travel restrictions following the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan

Background and Future Plans (1) In response to the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (the third case in Japan this season) at a poultry farm in Joetsu City on October 26, 2024, Niigata Prefecture established a movement restriction area (within a 3km radius of the outbreak farm) and an export restriction area (area within a 3km to 10km radius of the outbreak farm) in accordance with the Livestock Infectious Disease Prevention Act. (2) On November 7, 2024, Niigata Prefecture lifted the export restrictions that had been set for the area within a 3km to 10km radius of the outbreak farm. (3) Niigata Prefecture has now lifted travel restrictions as of midnight on Sunday, November 17, 2024 (Saturday, November 16, 24:00), 21 days after the day after the quarantine measures at the affected farm were completed on October 26, 2024. 2.
