Lithuanian vegetable growers are raising concerns over cucumbers and tomatoes from Russia, allegedly entering Lithuania via Belarus and Poland with forged documents, and being sold at lower prices than local produce. This situation, highlighted by the Lithuanian Greenhouse Association, is causing financial strain on local and other EU growers due to the undercutting of prices. In response, Lithuania, along with Latvia, Estonia, Poland, and the Czech Republic, has urged the European Commission to consider imposing restrictions on food imports from Russia and Belarus, despite the lack of current sanctions on food products. Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Vitenis Tomkus, pointed out the difficulty in controlling such imports due to the EU's policy on the free movement of goods.
