In 2020, Colombia's meat and live animal exports saw a significant increase, with sales reaching over 100% at USD 267.1 million, up from USD 132 million in 2019. The country sold 34,124 tons of meat to a dozen countries for USD 123.3 million, with Russia, Lebanon, and Hong Kong being the main buyers. Additionally, international sales of live animals totaled USD 143.8 million, with Egypt, Lebanon, and Jordan joining Iraq and Libya in purchasing cattle from Colombia. This growth is largely due to successful health campaigns against foot-and-mouth disease, which restored Colombia's status as a country free from the disease by the World Organization for Animal Health. The meat and livestock sector is projected to generate USD 500 million by the end of 2022, signaling a promising future for Colombia's agricultural exports.
