South Korea: Livestock farm develops new Italian ryegrass (IRG) variety called Oasis

[Livestock News Reporter Kim Soo-hyung] The Rural Development Administration (Director Jae-ho Cho) has developed a new Italian ryegrass (IRG) variety called ‘Oasis’ that is suitable for Korea’s climate and cultivation conditions and has excellent productivity. Italian ryegrass is a feed crop with high feed value and livestock palatability and rapid initial growth. Italian ryegrass currently accounts for 80% of the domestic winter forage crop cultivation area. The new variety ‘Oasis’ developed by the National Institute of Animal Science, Rural Development Administration, is an early-growing variety with a fast harvest time. Compared to the imported breed ‘Florida 80’, it has excellent environmental adaptability and excellent grass feed productivity and feed value, so it was developed as a replacement item to increase the self-sufficiency rate of domestically developed breeds.
