Africa’s youth hold the key to agricultural transformation, but systemic barriers continue to limit their transition from participation to leadership. Africa’s Youth Advantage Meets Agricultural Potential Africa is home to the world’s youngest population, with more than 60% under the age of 25. At the same time, agriculture remains one of the continent’s most important sectors, employing between 50% and 65% of the labour force and contributing up to 30% of GDP. This intersection presents a powerful opportunity. With the right systems in place, young people could drive innovation, strengthen food security, and accelerate economic growth across the continent. Institutions such as the African Union—through the Malabo Declaration—and the African Development Bank, via its ENABLE Youth Programme, have already recognised this potential.
