Recently, Thailand's Ministry of Commerce clarified that the online claim about Chiang Mai longan prices dropping to 1 baht/kg (0.22 yuan/kg) only applies to Grade C longans (fruit diameter not exceeding 20mm). The AA-grade high-quality longans consumed by the general public currently have a procurement price of around 19-20 baht/kg (4.2-4.4 yuan/kg), with the 1 baht/kg price for Grade C longans remaining consistent with the same period last year.
Thailand's Domestic Trade Department revealed that the current longan production in Chiang Mai has reached 22,409 tons. In the early part of the harvest season, farmers are still delivering longans to procurement warehouses as usual. With increasing overseas orders, longan prices are expected to rise according to market mechanisms. Most Grade C longans are exported to Vietnam, which had strong demand last year, but this year, due to increased domestic production, orders have been somewhat delayed.
The latest Chiang Mai longan prices announced on July 12 are as follows: AA-grade fresh longans procurement price is 19-20 baht/kg, A-grade 10-11 baht/kg, B-grade 5-6 baht/kg, and C-grade 1 baht/kg. Bundled fresh longans are priced at gold level 25 baht/kg, red level 22 baht/kg, blue level 17 baht/kg, and green level 8 baht/kg. Bundled fresh longans of AA+A grade are 18-20 baht/kg, and A+B grade are 12-15 baht/kg.
