South Korea's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has introduced a low carbon agricultural and livestock product certification system, which has been applied to 51 items including food, special use, vegetables, and fruit trees. As of December 2020, 4700 farm households and 5657 ㏊ have received this certification. Farmers need to have eco-friendly or excellent agricultural management certification to apply for the low-carbon certification. The certification encourages the use of technology to reduce fertilizers and pesticides, and agricultural water management technology to reduce carbon emissions. These products are sold through premium distribution networks like department stores, large marts, and eco-friendly stores. The government is supporting farmers with consulting and screening costs through low-carbon certification support projects.
