A new species of bee, named Lucifer due to the devilish appearance given by the small horns on its head, is the newest addition to Australia's list of endangered species. It was discovered in Western Australia and its official name is Megachile (Hackeriapis) Lucifer, reports Curtin University in Perth. Climate trap: The drought in 2025 doomed the bees to "starvation death." "This is the first new member of the bee colony in over 20 years, which shows how much life we have yet to discover, including in areas threatened by metal mining, such as Goldfields, where Lucifer was found," says researcher and eco-activist Kate Prendergast from the university's school of molecular and biological sciences.
