German maize yields in 2021 is published

According to the German Maize Committee (DMK), the figures for the 2021 corn harvest are very encouraging. The total area under cultivation for both directions of use has decreased by 2.5% compared to 2020 to 2.65 million ha. This was mainly due to a decrease in the silage maize area, which fell by 3.5% to 2.22 million ha. Grain maize, on the other hand, increased by 2.7% to 431,000 ha, which was mainly due to increases in those countries with declining silo maize cultivation. The silo maize harvest (including biogas maize) last year was 104.8 million tons (2020: 97,500), so the harvest volume exceeded the 100 million tons mark for the first time ever. The average yield for fresh matter across Germany was 472.2 dt/ha, significantly more than the 423.9 in the previous year or even the 390 dt/ha in 2019.
