The Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) has announced Malaysia's readiness to help address the sustainable palm oil requirements of Iceland, following the latter's supermarket chain's sunflower oil shortage. This development comes after Iceland Foods Ltd. lifted its ban on palm oil, initially imposed due to the conflict in Ukraine and the perceived environmental impact of palm oil production. MPOC's chairman, Larry Sng Wei Shien, criticized Iceland's anti-palm oil stance, arguing that it overlooks the industry's progress towards sustainability and highlights outdated misconceptions. Sng emphasized that palm oil is more efficient and can satisfy the demand in the British and European markets, allowing for the reduction of land use and the achievement of 100% sustainable palm oil in Europe.
