Malaysia's commodities minister, Johari Abdul Ghani, has urged palm oil producers to back a biofuel initiative that converts palm oil waste into clean energy using technology from Wilhelmina Malaysia Energy Sdn Bhd. This technology transforms empty fruit bunches (EFB) from oil palm plantations into 'TG2 black pellets,' a cleaner alternative to coal. The initiative has attracted interest from Japan, which is considering adopting the technology. Johari has encouraged industry players to dedicate 10% to 20% of their EFB production to increase TG2 black pellet output, potentially positioning Malaysia as a global exporter. The plant can produce 80,000 tonnes of TG2 black pellets annually.
