A new Malaysian hybrid pineapple called MS16, developed by MARDI, will be planted in Johor next year and is expected to be on the market in 2025, with plans for export to various countries including China. Johor, the main pineapple producing area in Malaysia, is aiming to increase its pineapple planting and the addition of the MS16 variety will further enrich the local pineapple varieties. In 2022, Johor's pineapple planting area reached 11,399 hectares, with a production of 402,000 tons and an export value of 1.2 billion ringgit, and the addition of the MS16 variety is expected to contribute to this industry.
