Malaysian Head of State Ibrahim presented durians to Chinese President Xi Jinping during a visit to China, marking the success of 'durian diplomacy' following an agreement that allows Malaysia to export fresh durians to China. The agreement, signed during Chinese Premier Li Qiang's visit to Malaysia, also covers palm oil and other fresh fruits. So far, Malaysia has exported about 400 tons of fresh durian, with expectations to export thousands of tons in the next season. Ibrahim's visit included discussions with Xi Jinping and Li Qiang on strengthening the Malaysia-China friendship and the potential of Malaysia to join the BRICS.
