Core Tip: On June 20, 2025, the Food Safety and Quality Division of Malaysia's Ministry of Health released a draft regulation for public consultation on Amendment No. 2/2025 to the Food Act 1983, with the consultation period ending on July 19, 2025. The draft primarily addresses sweeteners in Malaysia, which include a range of sweet foods, artificial sweeteners, and non-nutritive sweeteners. The proposed amendments mainly involve food sweeteners: adding new product standards for anhydrous glucose syrup, lactose, and low-fat milk products; simultaneously adjusting standards for multiple products such as sugar, brown sugar, and glucose syrup, with revisions involving deletions of additive usage requirements and quality specification adjustments. This presents new compliance challenges for Chinese enterprises exporting related products to Malaysia.
