Peru has successfully reopened its Chilean market after implementing corrective measures against queresas, following phytosanitary issues that had previously banned the product. In the initial stage of the reopening, Canada has emerged as the main buyer, purchasing 1,184 tons for US$ 2 million. However, Chile's previous main importer, Chile, has significantly reduced its imports due to these issues, going from US$ 1,275 million last season to only US$ 160 thousand this season. Currently, Peruvian asparagus has phytosanitary protocols for over 64 international markets, covering demand and supporting production across more than 18,853 hectares. The State National Agency for Agricultural Health Safety (SENASA) plays a crucial role in obtaining these permits and providing support for their maintenance, ensuring compliance through activities like certification of production sites and inspection of processing plants.
