The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Mexico reports that the mango production chain creates a total of 47,706 jobs, contributing 1.5 million wages annually. In the first five months of 2020, mango exports reached $95 million, making it the thirteenth leading crop in foreign sales. With a production of 2.18 million tons, Mexico ranks sixth globally. The majority of exports, 86%, were sent to the United States. The Ataulfo mango, a native Mexican variety discovered in 1959, accounts for 29% of the national mango production.
