Due to a decrease in wheat production and high prices, many countries are seeking alternative sources, with rice becoming a suitable replacement. This situation is advantageous for Vietnamese rice exports, especially with the increase in high-quality rice production areas. In the first five months of 2022, rice exports reached nearly 2.77 million tons, valued at over 1.35 billion USD. The EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) is expected to further boost Vietnamese rice exports to the EU, with businesses already using up the quotas granted by the Agreement. However, the main challenge lies in ensuring that fragrant rice exported to the EU is certified correctly to enjoy preferential treatment, requiring businesses to have a cultivation area that ensures the correct variety and quality.
