Spain's Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has released new resolutions for the management of the sardine fishery in Iberian waters until 2024. The resolutions allow for different opening dates for the fishery in the Cantabrian and Northwest Seas and the Gulf of Cádiz, with a mandatory three-month stop for species recovery. The Gulf of Cádiz's purse seine fleet can start fishing on March 1, nearly 20 days earlier than the previous season. However, the catch limit for the Spanish fleet has been reduced to 14,890.75 tons for 2024, a decrease of over 12,000 tons from the previous season.
