The Federation of Bakers and Confectioners in Bulgaria, led by Mariana Kukusheva, has clarified that Bulgarian bread producers and mills do not use wheat from Ukraine due to the lack of necessary certificates and current low wheat prices. They also highlighted the risks of wheat infection from Ukraine and noted that sunflower, a product in short supply in the EU, is the more expensive raw material imported from Ukraine. Kukusheva also warned that bread prices may increase due to rising transport costs but assured that they will never reach pre-VAT sale prices. She also advocated for the extension of electricity subsidies beyond 2022 to prevent a sudden rise in living costs.
