German supermarkets have seen a significant increase in the prices of fruits and vegetables, with fruit prices rising by 11% and vegetables by 1% compared to last year, according to Destatis, the German CBS. The high prices were noticeable in the case of cucumbers, sweet peppers, and pears, with pear prices experiencing the most significant increase due to a tight European pear market. Strawberries also saw higher prices in June. Despite these market fluctuations, stores have included other costs in their margins to maintain prices in the middle bracket compared to previous years.
