Marketing challenges in Brazil: High supply and reduced demand impact watermelon prices for six consecutive weeks

For the sixth consecutive period, watermelon prices registered a drop in plantations. Hortifruti/Cepea collaborators indicate that the reasons for this trend persist: an excessive supply combined with insufficient demand. In Teixeira de Freitas (BA), demand is low due to occasional rains in the region, discouraging the local market. In Rio Grande do Sul, supply is high due to the intensification of the harvest in southern regions, accompanied by watermelons from Bahia and some fruits in Goiás. However, demand remains weak. Rains in the state of Rio Grande do Sul are more controlled, not impacting production as in December and early January.
