The food sector in Spain is experiencing last-minute shopping and household consumption as the Christmas campaign coincides with pandemic restrictions, hotel closures, and Brexit uncertainty. Despite challenges such as traffic jams at the British border and decreased supply of hake, markets and fishmongers are expecting a surge in sales between Christmas Eve and the day before. The extent of sales varies across regions, with some experiencing a decrease in supply and price increases for Christmas products, especially fish and seafood. The Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) in Spain has noted a significant price increase of 7.5% for typically Christmas products in the last week.
