Turkey hatchery numbers for May have seen a significant decrease compared to the previous year, with a 16% drop in eggs in incubation and an 8% decrease in poults hatched. This decline is part of a larger strategy by producers to improve profitability. As a result, the net number of poults placed into meat production also saw an 8% decrease. Despite these challenges, there has been a 2% increase in poults hatched and placements compared to April. The USDA will provide its next updated annual turkey production projection on July 12th.
