French farmers are expressing concerns over the potential threat to France's food sovereignty due to 'unfair competition' from foreign producers with less strict standards. The Prime Minister has not dismissed the possibility of implementing additional measures to address this issue. Currently, France imports 20% of its food, a figure that has doubled since 2000, with fruits, vegetables, fish, and shellfish being the most imported products. Additionally, while the majority of beef sold in supermarkets is locally sourced, over half of the beef sold in restaurants is imported, primarily from the Netherlands. France also imports a significant portion of its dairy products.
