Meghalaya's Agriculture Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh, announced the export of Lakadong turmeric and ginger powder to the Netherlands and the United Kingdom for the first time. The high-value turmeric, known for its high curcumin content, was sourced from the West Jaintia Hills district, while the ginger powder was obtained from Ri-Bhoi districts. The export was made possible through a trial initiated by the state government following consumer demand in these countries. The shipment, consisting of around 420 kg of Lakadong turmeric and 20 kg of ginger powder, was expected to begin in 2020 but was delayed due to the pandemic.
