Mexico and Chile implement electronic certification for trade in pork and other livestock products

Mexico and Chile activated in March 2026 the electronic certification system e-Cert for the commercial exchange of live animals, livestock products and by-products, including pork, poultry, and sheep meat, as well as derivatives such as cheese and ricotta. The scheme, jointly developed by Mexico’s National Service for Agrifood Health, Safety and Quality (SENASICA) and Chile’s Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG), is the first that Mexico implements with a trading partner specifically for the exchange of meat products, as reported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on April 4, 2026. The e-Cert replaces printed health certificates with data in XML format that are transmitted directly between the IT systems of the health authorities of both countries. As it is a Government-to-Government exchange, the documents cannot be manipulated, altered, or falsified, eliminating document fraud as a risk in the export and import chain.
