Spain ranks 7th in Europe in milk production, accounting for 5% of the continent's total. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, household dairy consumption in Spain has risen sharply. However, the modernization of the Spanish dairy industry has led to a decrease in the number of milk producers. Milk production continues to increase, and Spain is the leading producer of sheep's and goat's milk in the EU. However, the COVID-19 pandemic is expected to decrease production of sheep and goat milk. Spain is a net importer of dairy products, but domestic milk supplies have increased by over one million tonnes since 2010. Exports of Spanish milk also increased in 2019, with a notable increase in exports to China.
