Over 12 million kilos of cherries, worth over 25 million euros, are expected to be lost due to significant damage caused by rains in the north of the region, as reported by the Union of Farmers and Livestock Unions (La Unión). The damage occurs during the harvest season, with over 90% of farmers uninsured. This is the third consecutive year of severe losses for the Cáceres cherry sector, with this campaign expected to result in a loss of 21 million euros, of which only 4 million may be compensated by agricultural insurance.
