Yellow Sigatoka is a very common disease that attacks banana production. It is caused by the fungus Mycosphaerella musicola, which causes characteristic yellow and brown spots on the leaves of the plant, reducing its photosynthesis and, consequently, affecting the yield of the crop. Due to its origin, the best way to combat it has always been the use of chemical fungicides, which are applied preventively in the last two months of the year, when the temperature and humidity conditions are suitable for the proliferation of the fungus. Precisely an alternative to these solutions is what a group of researchers from INTA Formosa is seeking, a province that leads the productive epicenter of this fruit, also spread in Salta, Jujuy, and Misiones. The proposal that the specialists are working on is to replace fungicides with biological agents in the control of Yellow Sigatoka.
