The government of Batam, Riau Islands Province, is taking steps to make Bulan Island, a hub for pig farming, into a disease-free zone for African Swine Fever (ASF) in order to increase pig exports to Singapore. The Directorate General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health (Ditjen PKH) has started the ASF free compartment certification process at a pig farm on Moon Island, reinforcing biosecurity measures and appreciated by the Singapore Food Authority. The Ministry of Agriculture is implementing measures such as limiting pig traffic, surveillance, and public awareness to control ASF, and committed to continuing biosecurity and assurance. All parties agreed that there have been significant improvements in biosecurity and health assurance in the Pulau Bulan pig farms.
