Moroccan carrot exporters face dramatic rise in Spanish demand

Morocco is boosting its carrot exports to Spain in response to the European drought. Morocco has recorded an impressive increase in its carrot exports to Spain, taking advantage of the water shortage that has hit Europe. According to the EastFruit report, during the 2022/23 campaign, which runs from July to June, Spanish imports of carrots from Morocco increased by 5.7 times compared to the previous year. In addition, Moroccan exports to Spain during this campaign exceeded the total of the previous six seasons. This marks a remarkable achievement, given that Moroccan carrots have historically had little presence on the Spanish market, with volumes oscillating between 20 and 280 tonnes per month. As a result, only 936 tonnes of carrots from Morocco had been imported into Spain over the past six years.
