During the first quarter of 2023, Spain emerged as a significant market for melon imports, bringing in 35.16 million kilos from January to March at a total cost of 31.96 million euros, averaging out to 0.91 euros per kilo. The country's melon preferences have shifted, with Brazil becoming the top supplier, contributing 74.2% of the total imports, or 26.09 million kilos, valued at 24.84 million euros. Senegal held the second spot with a volume of 7.79 million kilos, and Portugal rounded out the top three with 394,322 kilos imported. This shift in sourcing patterns has repositioned Morocco, a former leading supplier, to the fourth place in Spain's melon market for the first quarter of 2023.
