Moroccan pepper outperforms Spanish, Dutch and Turkish pepper in European markets

Moroccan pepper exports last year amounted to 166.9 million kilograms, an estimated growth of 4.43 percent compared to 2021 and 80.8 percent over the last ten years. According to an analysis conducted by the company "Hortoinfo", pepper exports declined, in contrast, in Spain, the Netherlands and Turkey. Although Spanish pepper exports increased during the last ten years by 33.88% to reach 793.98 million kilos, last year they decreased by 10.95% compared to 891.6 million kilograms of pepper exported in the previous year. The Netherlands reduced its pepper exports in 2022 to a total of 428.53 million kilos, by -4.21 percent compared to 2021, and -3.63 percent compared to what it exported ten years ago. Although Turkey increased its sales by 90.82 percent in the last ten years, in 2022 they decreased by 16.49 percent compared to the previous year, with export volume reaching 158.94 million kilograms.
