Research indicates that the consumption of African catfish in 2024 is approximately 144,000 tons, with an annual growth rate of 2.7% since 2013, bringing the market size of catfish products to 941 million USD. It is estimated that between 2024 and 2035, the annual consumption of African catfish will increase by about 1%, reaching 162,000 tons; sales are expected to grow by 2.4% annually, peaking at nearly 1.2 billion USD by 2035. The consumption of catfish is mainly concentrated in Nigeria (23,000 tons), Ethiopia (14,000 tons), and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (10,000 tons), accounting for 32% of the total African catfish consumption. In terms of value, Nigeria dominates the market (143 million USD), followed by Ethiopia (86 million USD) and Egypt (80 million USD).
