Mozambique is failing to reach its potential in cashew nut production, according to the director-general of the Mozambique Almond Institute, Ilídio Bande. The country produces close to 150,000 tons of cashews annually, but Bande believes it could produce more due to the high quality of its cashews and the existence of a guaranteed market. The central region of the country is identified as having the greatest potential for production. A proposal to revise the cashew law was discussed at a recent consultation meeting attended by various stakeholders.
