White fig harvest has begun in the Mut district of Mersin. The annual yield of figs, produced on approximately 15,000 decares of land, is expected to approach 100,000 tons this year. Mut district, one of Turkey's important fruit production centers, has now opened its white fig season after plum and apricot harvests. White figs, particularly praised for their unique Mut aroma, are receiving intense interest in the domestic market. Around 5,000 families in the district sustain their livelihoods through fig production. Due to high demand, the first harvest products were sold to merchants at 200 TL from the orchard. Fresh figs collected at dawn are being sent across Turkey through merchants. The target is to harvest approximately 100,000 tons of figs by the end of the season.
