Myanmar is experiencing a surge in corn kernel prices due to increasing demand from countries like India, Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand. Despite the end of Thailand's zero-tariff period, prices continue to rise. Domestic prices have risen from 1,350 Kyats per viss in October to 1,670 Kyats per viss on December 23. Non-GMO corn has attracted offers from Chinese companies. From April to November, Myanmar exported approximately 1.7 million tonnes of corn kernel, generating around US$700 million. The country's agricultural exports are led by pulses and beans, followed by rice and corn.
