Myanmar Targets 1.83 Million Tons of Legume Exports in New Fiscal Year

During the two-month period from April to May of this fiscal year, Myanmar has exported over 400,000 tons of various bean types.

U Soe Win Maung, advisor to the Myanmar Beans, Corn, and Sesame Association, stated that when exporting high-quality beans to international markets, the focus is on expanding existing markets rather than developing new ones.

In the previous fiscal year, Myanmar exported a total of 2.14 million tons of various bean types, generating revenue of $1.82 billion. Bean exports are primarily conducted via sea transport, with India being the largest export destination, while also exporting to China and European Union countries.

Currently, Myanmar exports approximately 20 varieties of beans, including black beans, mung beans, pigeon peas, red beans, and lima beans.
