Myanmar’s corn production rises

According to USDA, Myanmar’s corn production in 2025/26 is expected to increase to 2.95 million tonnes, supported by good yields due to favorable weather and high domestic prices. Most of Myanmar’s corn is produced from hybrid seeds, mostly imported from Thailand and India. The seed market is dominated by two large companies: Charoen Pokphand (CP Group) and Myanmar Awba Group, which together hold 85% of the market. Two popular seed varieties are CP-808 and NK 625 (Syngenta). Despite the increase in production, domestic corn consumption is expected to remain flat during the period due to lower livestock numbers, high feed costs, and lower demand for poultry products. Meanwhile, corn exports in 2025/26 are expected to be 2.3 million tonnes, impacted by lower production, transportation issues, border closures, and low prices.
