Operation Opson X, a global campaign led by Interpol and Europol against food fraud, saw participation from Spanish and German authorities between December 2020 and June 2021. The operation targeted fraud in wine, alcohol, honey, horse passports, meat, seeds, and plants. In Spain, 120 people were investigated, leading to the seizure of over 600 tons of seeds and 116,000 liters of spirits. Germany focused on the declaration of meat products and imported honey, resulting in the seizure of honey and the initiation of criminal proceedings. The operation also highlighted the seizure of nearly 1.8 million liters of wine and alcohol across 22 countries by the European Anti-Fraud Office. Additionally, a Dutch man was arrested for planning to sell food products stolen from a company planning to destroy them.
