The National Bureau of Statistics of China reported a minor increase in the grain planting area and output in 2020. The grain planting area increased by 700,000 hectares, reaching 116.77 million hectares, and the grain output increased by 5.65 million tons, totaling 669.49 million tons. The irrigated area of arable land also increased by 430,000 hectares. However, not all crop planting areas saw an increase, with reductions in wheat, sugar, and cotton planting areas. The output of most crops, such as summer grain, early rice, and autumn grains, saw slight increases, while the output of corn, cotton, and sugar plants saw decreases. The output of oil plants and tea saw increases of 2.6% and 7.1%, respectively.
