In the first half of 2022, Peru's native pepper exports saw a decrease of 3% from the previous year, with a total value of US$ 3,944,000, according to the Association of Exporters (ADEX). Yellow pepper was the dominant product, contributing 57% of the total. The United States was the top importer, accounting for 59% of the total imports. Walter Seras Pacheco, the president of ADEX's Capsicum Committee, is advocating for the opening of more markets, enhancing safety measures, promoting Good Agricultural Practices, and supporting small producers. He also emphasized the importance of valuing the organoleptic characteristics of Peruvian peppers and reactivating the 'Capsicum Sustainable Development Plan 2018-2028'.
