The USA Dry Pea and Lentil Council has welcomed a new affiliate from Nebraska to offer revenue protection for producers of these crops. The Nebraska Pea and Lentil Commission, led by Logan Govier, was established in the 2020 legislative session to develop programs and policies to promote these crops. A one-percent checkoff program has been implemented, collecting funds from July 1, which will be used for research in collaboration with the University. The Central Nebraska region's farmers, especially cattle producers, are encouraged to consider growing peas and lentils, with the USDA NRCS offering programs to support diversification.
